Nelajus’s Top 3 Games of 2017

Nelajus’s Top 3 Games of 2017

I’ll keep this short, but this year has been an amazing year for video games. 2018 promises even more spectacular releases with games like Last of Us Part II, Red Dead Redemption II and God of War just to name a few.

In all honesty, all of these will be RPG’s but I think the rest the crew here at Critikal Zone will share theirs and provide a bit more insight to our diversity in gaming backgrounds.

Nier: Automata

Release Date: Feb 23, 2017 (Worldwide in March)

Systems: PS4 and PC

Developer: Platinum Games

Behind the genius of Yoko Taro’s writing, this game was incredibly complex. It tells the tale of the androids 2B and 9S as their routine scouting missions divulge the mysteries surrounding Earth’s Resistance versus an alien robot race. Not only are there incredible environments, but gorgeous music and an enjoyable combat system. I won’t spoil too much but everything about this game is beautiful and it’s one of the best RPG’s in recent years if I’m being honest.

Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood

Release Date: June 20, 2017

Systems: PS4 and PC

Developer: Square Enix

The 2nd Expansion for the Final Fantasy XIV MMO following Heavensward (2015) and since its comeback in 2013 with A Realm Reborn. This expansion continues the story of the Warrior of Light as they seek to quash the Imperial occupation of Gyr Abania to the west and Doma in the east. This expansion released new areas, diving, new Trials and revamped combat. With more to come in the next year, I can only get more excited for outstanding dungeon and story progression

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds

Release Date: 2017 (Early Access)

Systems: Xbox and PC

Developer: PUBG Corporation

An open world battle royale game? That hasn’t been done before! (sarcasm). But what this game brings is a sense of fulfillment, anxiety and competence that most games don’t currently. Early access began in March and it’s now the 2nd best selling PC game. Players fight in an open arena with nothing but the backpack on their shoulders where they have to find weapons and vehicles. Then comes fight to the death until one person (or group) remains victorious, Hunger Games style. Whether it’s first person mode or 3rd person, the games remain incredibly intense.
